Red Thunder Enters Not Guilty Plea In Sexual Abuse Case

Calvin Red Thunder Jr., a 48-year-old resident of Brockton, entered a plea of not guilty Dec. 21 against charges of abusive sexual contact.
Red Thunder appeared in United States District Court before Judge Magistrate John Johnston where he entered his plea. According to court documents, in November 2015 and January 2016, Red Thunder allegedly knowingly engaged in sexual contact with an unnamed person who had not yet reached the age of 12.
In court, Red Thunder asserted his Fifth and Sixth Amendment rights to remain silent and to have legal counsel present at any and all interactions with the government or others acting on the government’s behalf.
Details on the case are sparse due to the age of the victim.
If convicted, Red Thunder faces up to life in prison, $250,000 in fines and five years supervised release.
A motions deadline has been set for Jan. 26 and a plea agreement deadline has been set for Feb. 5. If the case goes to trial, a trial date has been set for Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 9 a.m. in the Missouri River Federal Courthouse in Great Falls.
