Roosevelt County Day Of Service Planned

Over two dozen community groups in Roosevelt County and beyond are collaborating to offer a Roosevelt County Day of Service in Culbertson at the County Fairgrounds, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

The Day of Service is free and open to all in addition tot he many services on offer.

One service that many are excited about is the shredding truck, sponsored by Action for Eastern Montana. Individual residents are encouraged to bring their own document and are encouraged to remove all metal from documents to be shredded. Note that the original owner of the documents must be present to shred documents

Lunch will also be provided to those in attendence. Richland Federal Credit Union is donating food, which will be prepared by local groups and Communities in Action AmeriCorps. Blue Rock Distributing is providing soda, and Sheridan Electric Cooperative is providing paper products. The meal is currently set to be chili and hotdogs, perfect for a start-of-summer day.

Among the health services available freely will be vision and hearing checks, blood pressure checks, glucose checks, medication disposal bags and more. Both the Roosevelt County Medical Center and the Roosevelt County Department of Health will be on-site providing services and valuable health information. Additionally, the Richland County Department of Health and AmeriCorps will provide services.

Other service groups who will attend include the Roosevelt County DUI Task Force and the Mobile Veterans truck.

Activities for kids will also be available. Painting projects, books, drawings for small door prizes and more will be available via the Roosevelt County Health Department. Montana No Kid Hungry and AmeriCorps VISTA will be doing a taste-testing for healthy foods for kids.

Resources specifically for seniors and people who care for seniors will be available too. The Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office and Richland Federal Credit Union will provide information on fraud. Aging Services will be providing information on State Health Insurances Assistance Programs and Medicare.

Other community services will be provided as well. Free tire and antifreeze checks are being provided by the local Missouri River Rats 4-H and Culbertson FFA clubs. MSU Extension Service will provide MontGuides, a self-learning resource from MSU Extension. Information will be available on topics ranging from family financial management to family and human development such as estate planning, stress, parenting, nutrition and gardening. Promotional items will be available at many booths.
