Unbeaten Cowboys Return To Prominence

The Culbertson Cowboys, with 10 consecutive playoff appearances between 2006 and 2015, have returned to prominence boasting an undefeated season so far.
Culbertson had less success in the competitive 8-Man East conference in 2016 and 2017 after the split with Bainville, which opted to go solo rather than to continue to co-op with Culbertson.
The Cowboys appear to be at the top of their game boasting a 5-0 record so far with shutout wins over St. Labre and Powder River, a 50-point win over Lodge Grass, a 40-point win over Plentywood and a closer 26-24 finish with Scobey, a 2017 playoff team. Remaining on the Cowboys’ schedule are Fairview, Lame Deer and Circle.
Culbertson’s junior varsity, which is comprised of sophomores and freshmen, fell 56-0 in Poplar’s Homecoming game Tuesday, Sept. 18. Not in Culbertson’s favor, it was an 8-man game played on Poplar’s 11-man field is longer and wider than 8-man fields that accommodate six additional players.
The Cowboys brought an 11-player squad of freshmen and sophomores that was comprised of 10 male and one female player.
For Culbertson, Faith Boland passed for 62 yards with 11 completions. Kyler Kempton led on the ground, rushing for 24 yards. He also led Culbertson receivers with one reception for 55 yards. Canaan Boyd had one reception for seven yards.
Poplar and Culbertson played a rematch on Culbertson’s field Monday, Sept. 24. Results were not available prior to The Searchlight going to press.
