Poplar Pockets First And Second Places At Wolf Point CC Invite

The Poplar High School girls’ and boys’ cross country teams pocketed first and second places at the Wolf Point Invitational at Airport Golf Course Friday, Aug. 31.
The Lady Indians finished in first place as a team with Allie Azure posting a first-place finish, Andrea Hale finishing seventh and Jacora Youngman coming in eighth.
For the Poplar boys, Hudson Atkinson earned first place, Zack Frederick finished fourth and Jase Frederick recorded eighth for second-place team honors for the Indians.
Leading the Wolf Point Wolves were Kaholo Toves with a 16th-place finish for the boys and Alex Crawford 15th for the girls.
Leading Culbertson in the high school races were Carson Ullmer with a sixth-place finish and Autumn Bergum finishing 17th.
In the 2.5K junior high race, a half course for fifth through eighth grades, the Poplar Middle School girls’ team pocketed first place and the boys finished third.
The high school course is 5K.
For Wolf Point, seventh-grader Peyton Summers posted a first-place finish.
“This was our first meet of the year and I was pleased with our performances across the board,” Wolf Point head coach John Wetsit said.
“Our kids represented us very well in front of our home crowd and I couldn’t be more proud,” he said.
“This early in the season we are still very much focused on training and emphasizing effort in the later part of the races,” Wetsit said. “This will set us up for big things later in the season.”
Poplar head coach Scott Azure was pleased with his team’s performance.
“Everyone showed up and ran hard. Sophomore Hudson Atkinson and freshman Allie Azure won their individual races and that really seems to get the crowd and our fans excited,” he said.
